Since we are hardly in the north-east area, we continue exploring the area after our brunch at Lola's Cafe. It was a warm afternoon but that did not stop us from walking to The Coffee Daily - things we do for food. It was a truly long walk among the private housing and I even took out my umbrella cos it was just way tooooooo hot. A sign of relive when I saw the signage :))

I have seen many photos of their famous rainbow cake but it is like one of the most expensive cake around and having baked one before, I know it is not worth the money. Instead, we ordered my favourite chocolate truffle cake and our usual coffee (latte and mocha) chilled. This place is really charming and it helps that when we were there, it was very quiet. I guess I have emphasize enough, we like quiet places. Indeed a hidden gem.

Really amazed by how they transformed the old-school metal plates and stools into tables. Not exactly stable for the big coffee cups but really interesting idea.

The coffees were pretty good but all I can remember is how relax we were. We really love this place and will definitely come back if we are around the vicinity. Can't wait!!! We spotted Sun Ray Cafe a few steps away and the cute pups hanging around. Probably psycho my bro to drive us and doggy over some day. Hmm... Serangoon....

Revolution Coffee

After Audacious Cakery, we hop on the bus for lunch at ABC Food Centre cos the boyfriend loves his roasted meat and we decided to try Fatty Cheong. The food were pretty good and that explained the long queue... After Faty Cheong, we took a bus and a looooonnnngggg walk to Revolution Coffee!

It wasn't easy to find this place and it is one of the inaccessible cafe around. The walk from the bus stop at expressway took us about 10 mins and imagine the hot sun... But no regrets coming because it is such an hidden gem. Located at Media Circle it is not far from the charming Wessex Estate as well as Holland Village and Buona Vista. It really helps if you drive but even if you do not, you can still come here!

Despite the long walk, we decided to sit outdoor and have hot coffee cos the outdoor space is too cute to resist. Love the old-school chairs and how they made the tables using wooden plank and beer crates. As we were enjoying our coffee, we enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the surrounding. For a moment, we felt like we weren't in Singapore. No tall buildings. No constant traffic. I can't emphasize how much I love this place.

The coffee were pretty good I think. And this strawberry white chocolate muffin that we had (though it wasn't exactly cheap) left a deeper impression on me. It is just so home-made kind of delicious. I can't wait to be back! Wish they have longer opening hours.

Audacious Cakery

Before boyfriend starts his shift work (which is way back in January), we decided to make full use of our last few normal weekends to go on more food exploration. We started with Tong Ah early morning before walking to Audacious Cakery after reading and seeing all the good reviews.

Our experience differed greatly from all the good reviews and I am really doubting all these free tasting that the bloggers are receiving. Is their job to make the food seems good when it is not, or should they actually feedback to the company they are working with? That aside, there are still some truthful bloggers out there who shared the same experience as us.

The space and cakes were really pretty but they sure do look prettier than they tasted. The strawberry shortcake had too much cream and not much of a taste while the chocolate souffle tart was too sweet rather than chocolaty and the tart wasn't crispy enough for our liking. Though the cakes didn't meet the standard, the service were really good

They do have quite a variety of cakes available. There might be just that one for you but for us, we won't be back any time soon.

W39 Bistro and Bakery

W39 Bistro and Bakery is another cafe in my list because it is one of the very few cafes in the West! I have seen its photo since they just opened and love the cheery colors. But having read about all the crowd during brunch, I have yet to drag boyfriend for a brunch session. A few Thursday night ago, we decided to hop by West Coast Plaza for some outlet shopping (and we got nothing, not surprising). We had some simple dinner at the hawker opposite WCP and by 7pm, I was ready for my dinner part 2 at W39. It is a 10-minute walk from WCP and wasn't too hard to find.

It was Tapas Thursday so for $15, we get to have 2 tapas. I know I wanted to try the Chicken Winglets and after much consideration, we decided to have the Cold Cuts. I think boyfriend was giving me the 'why are you ordering chicken wings here' kind of look but, he actually admit the chicken wings were pretty good. It was so addictive and I think it will go very well with some beer!

Boyfriend had the coffee and mention that it wasn't bad. I can't wait to go and try their brunch menu!!! Oh. One more thing, they do have a resident cat that hang around at the alfresco dining area. I am not fond of it so, happy to be indoor!

Department of Caffeine

D.O.C opened in such big commotion, and everyone following the social media knows about this place and their buttermilk waffle. I have heard of it since Day 1 but have been pushing back a visit to avoid the crowd. We were there during the long National Day weekend and crowd was inevitable. Managed to get a table for 2 and happily made our orders at the counter. However, the tables were placed so closely together, it gets rather noisy. Boyfriend and I are not fans of noisy busy place so this is definitely a minus point.

We decided to hop by Flor for cakes after the coffee so we didn't order much. It was a Mocha ($5.50), Latte ($5.00) and a Lavender Honey Cake ($5.00). Love how the lavender floral bits are sprinkled on the top for some simple aesthetic enhancement. The whole cake might be a little sweet for some because of the honey and icing on top but honey is one of my favourite food! I have to admit that I like the cake quite a lot :)

I am looking forward to a next visit to try the waffle and the coffees again.

Penny University

Before heading to City Plaza with my sister and all her other bridesmaid one weekend, we hop by Penny University. Finally to a cafe at the east! We were really lucky to get a table for 3 upon stepping into the cafe because we saw constant crowd pouring into the fully-packed cafe shortly after. It was such a hot afternoon, but that didn't stop people from taking up the outdoor seat.

The vintage-looking cash register left such a great impression on me. While listening to our orders, the lady at the cashier started tapping at the "register" and I thought it was a real functional one... ... Until I notice the Ipad behind the register. We ordered Latte and Mocha, some sandwiches and of course, some sweet stuffs to end the meal. It is difficult to walk pass the cake display without wanting to order a few to try. My sister and I love the Strawberry Lemon Tart because anything sour and sweet is a sure winner. The Millionaire Shortbread didn't fare well for me, but it is a bias comment because I do not like caramel.

I might only visit again if I am around the vicinity to try the other cakes though the crowd can be quite a turn-off.

The Coffee Shot

Will travel for food is something that describe me and boyfriend a lot. Despite not having a car, we have been to many places that are away from the city by our favourite mode of transport - BUS. We tried walking to The Coffee Shot from Lavender MRT on a Saturday night and it took us about 10 minutes to find it.

It was rather empty when we were there. Only 2 other tables were occupied but no one is complaining. The cafe scene in Singapore is booming but the crowd seems to be everywhere too. Love it when I chance upon a cafe on a low traffic day.

Boyfriend had a Americano ($4.50) and I had my usual Mocha ($5.50). The Americano was too watery and lack the caffeine kick and the Mocha was medicore. Hope they do better with their drinks the next time. Wasn't expecting much from the cake so both of us were quite surprised that the Royal Chocolate Truffle was rather good. Yummy chocolatey treat is always a plus point for me.If you are looking for a nice place to sit down and chat with a few friends, this is the place to go.
