W39 Bistro and Bakery

W39 Bistro and Bakery is another cafe in my list because it is one of the very few cafes in the West! I have seen its photo since they just opened and love the cheery colors. But having read about all the crowd during brunch, I have yet to drag boyfriend for a brunch session. A few Thursday night ago, we decided to hop by West Coast Plaza for some outlet shopping (and we got nothing, not surprising). We had some simple dinner at the hawker opposite WCP and by 7pm, I was ready for my dinner part 2 at W39. It is a 10-minute walk from WCP and wasn't too hard to find.

i love anything chocolately!

It was Tapas Thursday so for $15, we get to have 2 tapas. I know I wanted to try the Chicken Winglets and after much consideration, we decided to have the Cold Cuts. I think boyfriend was giving me the 'why are you ordering chicken wings here' kind of look but, he actually admit the chicken wings were pretty good. It was so addictive and I think it will go very well with some beer!

Boyfriend had the coffee and mention that it wasn't bad. I can't wait to go and try their brunch menu!!! Oh. One more thing, they do have a resident cat that hang around at the alfresco dining area. I am not fond of it so, happy to be indoor!

My birthday lunch: Au Chocolat @ MBS

This year, my October is really filled to the brim with preparation of the candy table for jie's wedding and all the work. So much so that I didn't have the mood to plan anything for my birthday. Can never expect the boyfriend to plan anything in advance but he was really sweet to offer to go to St Regis for high tea because he remember me raving about it. He called on the very day and of course, he couldn't get a table for us. As he has a match that night, I didn't want us to get all jelly from a long high tea session so I suggested going to Au Chocolat for a late lunch. And it is best decision that day!

This section of the restaurant is so cute! But we only saw it on our way out of MBS and seems like no one is being directed to sit there. Next time I shall try to request.

I have in mind all the things I want to order. Au Chocolat Egg Bens, Truffle Fries and their Chocolate Cake! Boyfriend ordered a Fish & Chips and we were shocked to see the fries (as part of the fish&chip) as big as our truffle fries. The normal fries taste quite meh in comparison so we left half of it untouched - and we finished the truffle fries and all the other food. Were totally stuffed but boyfriend insisted that I get the chocolate cake because it was my birthday. Or was I the one who insisted???

Will definitely be back for the truffle fries. It is impossible not to order it when you are there because the aroma is just too tempting!

Bali loving with my girls - September 2013 (Day 3)

It is our official last day in Bali as we have a night flight to catch. We made arrangement with the villa to go on our complimentary trip to Ubud but it due to the miscommunication, it came an hour late and we had some time to spare. That calls for a trip to Ole Ole again for some drinks because it was awfully hot that morning.

The lady boss was really friendly and the two cute doggies came to join us for tea.

We decided to head to Dirty Duck Diner for lunch. In comparison to my previous trip, the restaurant seems alittle empty this time round and we even managed to get a table at the pavilion. I enjoyed the crispy duck salad but all the other dishes were mediocre. The cripsy duck was way too boney, we couldn't find much meat to eat but it was indeed flavorful.

Due to some unseen circumstance, we didn't go to Ubud Market and head back to Canggu for our head massage scheduled at 4pm. The service was good and we wished we had visited them every day but we couldn't get a slot on our first morning...

And after the massage, we had to rush to the airport. That's the end of my first girlfriends trip! Not sure when we will get another one but definitely looking forward to it.

Bali loving with my girls - September 2013 (Day 2)

I made arrangement with Ketut, the driver whom I engaged on my previous trip for a whole day tour on the second day. However, he could not make it that day during to family matters and asked one of his employee to come (yes, he has since become a boss). The entire itinerary is being decided by us and we make a lot of last minute changes which he gladly obliged.

First stop: Tanah Lot since the girls have not been there before and it is fairly near our villa. It was raining on the way to Tanah Lot and luckily for us, it was not raining there though it was very gloomy... It is still as beautiful and as it was low tide, we could see people heading to the temple to get some holy water.

here's a shot with our young and friendly driver

Our 2nd destination is Ku De Ta for lunch

After lunch, it was a long long drive to Dreamland Beach. To get to the beach, you need to walk down a few flights of steps. It is no longer the hidden gem I have read about but packed with locals and tourists and nothing along the line of beautiful.

this way down

view from the top
Next up is my favourite destination of the trip! Uluwatu! I have been hesitant about coming here because of the monkey stories. It was not that bad when we were there but it isn't my kind of fun to walk so near them. Our driver went with us for safety purpose but also be our tour guide. He brought us to walk along this path that was still in construction just so that we can catch the most magnificent view. It is indeed breathtaking and I can't wait to bring the boyfriend here if we ever goes to Bali again (Why not?)

very windy there

Having said that we didn't have any terrible monkey encounter, one should not let his/her guards down. The monkeys are really smart and always looking for food. We witnessed this monkey eying on someone's tidbits, ran, grab and went back to its place to enjoy.

We ended our day with seafood BBQ dinner at Jimbaran Bay. We couldn't find the restaurant that we want to go to and had to choose base on our instinct. Blue Marlin was our choice. After we came back to Singapore, we found out that it is like the second LAST restaurant in Jimbaran Bay!! But luckily for us, the food was pretty good. But it was way too cloudy, we didn't get to see any sunset along the horizon.

I think we went through the same routine of television, mask and some supper that night. Before we know it, it is going to be our last day...
